Yangon

 

Yangon, the commercial capital, is the main gateway to Myanmar. Evergreen and cool with lush tropical trees, shady parks and beautiful lakes, Yangon has earned the name of  "The Garden City of the East". Yangon was founded by King Alaungpaya on the site of a small settlement called Dagon when he conquered Lower Myanmar in 1755.

When you visit Yangon, visiting Shwedagon Pagoda is a must! It is one of the most famous and interesting place to visit in Yangon. Sule Pagoda lies in the center of Yangon and can be easily visited. Other than pagodas, museums such as National Museum, Bogyoke Museum and Gems Museum display historical events of Myanmar. 

Shwedagon Pagoda

Shwedagon Pagoda is the most popular and well-known pagoda in Yangon. The pagoda is one of the main tourist  destinations  in  Myanmar.  Located at No.1, Shwedagon Pagoda  Road,  Dagon Township,  in Yangon, this pagoda is the most notable building in Yangon. The Shwedagon Pagoda is a great cone-shaped Buddhist monument that crowns a hill about one mile north of the Cantonment. The pagoda itself is a solid brick stupa (Buddhist reliquary) that is completely covered with gold. It rises 326 feet (99 m) on a hill 168 feet (51 m) above the city. 

Sule Pagoda

 Sule  Pagoda  is located  in the center  of  Yangon, at the  junction  of  Sule  Pagoda  Road  and Mahabandoola Road, Kyauktada Township, Yangon, Myanmar. This 48 meter (152 feet) high golden dome was used by the British as the nucleus of their grid pattern for the city when it was rebuilt in the 1880s. The pagoda's peculiarity is its octagonal- shaped pagoda, which retains its shape as it tapers to the spire.  

Kabar Aye Pagoda

  Kabar Aye Pagoda is located on Kabar Aye Road, Mayangone Township, Yangon, Myanmar.  The name “Kaba Aye” in Myanmar means “World Peace” to which this pagoda is dedicated. Different from the other pagodas, Kabar Aye Pagoda was only built during 1952. The Kabar Aye Pagoda compound is a large one intended to have peace and quiet environment for the monks (Sangas) and the devotees.

Around Yangon – Bago, Pyay, Chaung Thar Beach, Ngwe Saung Beach, Pathein

Bago is only 80 kilometer and about 1 hour drive from Yangon. Bago is one of the richest archaeological sites in Myanmar. Pyay lies 161 kilometers north of Yangon. The ancient ruins of the Pyu capital, Srikeshtra, lies in this city. Come and relax at the beautiful beaches of Chaung Thar and Ngwe Saung. Pathein well-known for the colorful Parasol.

Shopping Centres are blooming in Yangon. Souvenirs and Handicrafts shops are also available. Traditional dances and puppet shows are organized by Tour Operators and also available at Karaweik Hall. For your relaxation and recreation, at reasonable prices, Beauty Salons and Spa treatment Salons have increased in Yangon.
